Got the thread up for you two (Spellca and Matt). ThaneKrios, you gotta post soon, it's starting to get to the "you're spending too much time" issue. Even if it's a notice saying you're busy or whatever, I need something.

Yeah, on that note, since the whole arena is based on quantum physics and shit, if people want to have two fights with the same character, that's doable. (It's not like I'm a huge hard-ass on chronological order or how much sense it makes - nothing about it makes sense lol)
Or, Fallen, you can make another character as well.

Can you set up a fight between my Seth character and thanekrios' guy? Not unless Thane actually agrees. I don't have consent = I don't make the thread.

Shouldn't thanekrios worry about the battle at hand?

I can't comprehend how the battle-oriented "RP" tends to be much more popular than the story-oriented ones. Is it because people only care about 'fighting' when it comes to RPs in the first place?

I think it's because it's generally shorter and doesn't hold as much of a pressuring commitment. You only have one person waiting on you instead of five or seven or however many are in the roleplay. It's also a good test of writing skill against someone else (in the case of tournaments and good roleplayers) and, for some of the more unusual people, it's a way to blow off steam. Plus, it's just easier to set up in comparison, rather than organizing seven people to work together.

Name: Malus Chryseus Pullus Age: Incalculable Gender: Hermaphrodite Species: Chicken-Man Height: 6'0'' Weight: Weightless Weapon: Shoves its hands up its ass, and pulls out the deadly eggs known as "Malus Ovus." These eggs explode like bombs when thrown. Special Power: Flying, telekinesis, and weapon materialization. Omnipotence when it feels like it. Bio/Other: The descent of this mighty creature shall be heralded by burning winds and twisted lands. And with the coming of this horror, those who draw breath shall know the true meaning of eternal slumber. With the power to rend the heavens and sunder the earth, its mere presence distorts what lower life forms perceive as reality. Record: Who gives a fuck.

And since the only audience is probably the participants and the judge themselves, it's more of a self-satisfaction like a diary rather than a legitimate RP.

-shrugs- Some people like reading it. I know Emarka does, as do I, and they have entire tournaments dedicated to it on RPGC and Gaia. (Just because you don't like reading it doesn't mean other people dislike it) Around here, though...I dunno. Everywhere else I've been, story-oriented RPs are more popular. Maybe the RP section here just fails entirely. I'll be frank - the general quality of the "fights" here don't keep me really interested. It's like an underground fight club - everyone's a practical newb in comparison to guys in higher leagues. -shrugs again-

Also, there's a reason why I wrote in a first person rather than claiming altogether that these RPs sucked. But seriously, I don't see the point of having a devoted RP section if it continues like this, really.

Perhaps, Marly...if this is what works, this is what works. Not everyone has this perfect idea about what role-playing is or should be as you seem to have.

Stop putting words in my mouth, as I have never claimed that I had a 'perfect idea' of role playing. All I did was question the popularity of these types of RPs, which are usually below mediocre in terms of quality by the regular RP standards.

Yeah they're not the greatest quality. >.> But, personally, stuff on RPGC is pretty enjoyable to read. www.rpgchat.com/showthread.php?85186-I-don-t-dance-anymoreIt might not necessarily be your taste, granted.

I don't believe role-plays can be put in terms of "standards". If it works, it works. Not everyone feels like laying out a complex biography then get into a poorly run plot with little direction. If this sort of thing works here and members are willing to take part in it, then it should be a non-issue.

It's that kind of mindset that hinders improvement in the quality of the RPs, which could be essential in attracting new members and keeping the old members interested.

Sounds sort of elitist don't you think? I don't think anyone will be coming onto this forum for one-board titled "Role-Play" at all let alone judge by the contents within.
This site has a few sheltered RPs based on...essentially, fan-fiction. Having one or two open RPs giving members unrestricted roam where a werewolf can fight a mech is healthy to say the least.

Elitism? Hardly. Let's be honest here- The RP section is easily the most popular section in this forum, so it's obviously what's keeping the current members interested and present in this forum. Now imagine that the RP section became stale and less interesting over time due to the lack of changes. What would happen then? The forum dies.
And please don't tell me that I'm wrong about the RP section being this forum's life-support unit, as I have hardly seen any other section in this forum being remotely as active and having interested people as this one.
