I thought Misty was kind of spoiled in the original when I was a kid.

Never really got into the series,
Games, Hell yes, I played the original Yellow version. Know what a learnt?
Screw Magikarp and all its family, Pidgey and its line are the most dependable, loyal, friendly Pokemon you could ever want or need.
Since then, every single team where its been available has included Pidgey or one of its evolutions.

That little guy is loyal and badass, I remember a low level Pidgey once beat my rival all on its own

Pidgey is great but, Some Pokemon need effort, like Dratini or Lavatar or Bagon or Gible.

Pikachu is good but I've seen Pidgey's family take on Mewtwos, Dragonites, Mucks and come out on top.

And hey! Training a Pidgey right IS effort, got it let 'em get the right attacks at the right levels, get their stats up properly.
It isn't easy

The games aren't like the anime. Mewtwo is a weak fuck. I beat him with a Gravler once.
On another note, I'm a Water-type fan. Mudkip, Totodile, Squirtle and Piplup. My winning team. As for the god pidgey, as long as you train a pokemon whole heartedly and treat it like a friend, it can do most anything.

Teach it some lightening moves like Thunder and its a force to be reckoned with.

All of them. FallenSanity: I usually have Mewto use Thuner, Psychic, Hyperbeam and usually a HM move. I find he's fairly powerful if you know how to use him. Runs out of PP fast though.

My Rayquaza: Thunder, Fly, Psychic, and Hyper Beam. He's the tank of my team, and has bashed the likes of Arceus and Mewtwo, and even the likes of Missingo. But, I have treated him like a friend and a scholar, and thats why he is able to survive most anything.
